Back from mainland

Jambo, jambo

Sorry, for being so lazy the past days and not writing in my blog. Easter was great. On Good Friday there was kind of a party at Cholo's a lot of people celebrating. It was good. On Saturday there was a fullmoonparty at Kendwa Rocks which was great. Although, on Sunday I kind of regretted that I started drinking at Cholo's already and kept on drinking at the fullmoon party. At one point the guys made me drink water and this was the sign that I was completely wasted...holy crab.

On Sunday we had the impression that all people from mainland occupied Cholo's and all we wanted was some quiet place to hang out, so we had to walk faaarr away to another beach ;-). If I remember right I stayed in on Sunday night.

Monday was quiet again and I wasn't too sad about it. I didn't drink alcohol for 3 days, was still suffering from the fullmoon party.

On Wednesday was a party at Z Hotel, which was great :-). After that not much happened.

On Sunday I left for Dar Es Salam intending to stay there till last Wednesday. But it turned out, I would only stay for one night :-). I stayed at Dar Alive where a friend of Ruth's is working. It's a nice hotel at the beach of Dar Es Salam and staying there you wouldn't think you were in the city. Unfortunately, the room prices are quiet high :-(. I went there with some expats from Zanzibar and I knew these guys would travel further to Morogoro, Iringa and then some of them to Malawi. However, I wanted to stay in Dar and spent some time with Willy. On Monday though it turned out that Will was joining the others on their trip to Morogoro and as I didn't want to stay in Dar by myself I decided to join them.

Morogoro is a nice city close to the Tanzanian highlands. Its surroundings are stunning. I felt a bit like in Switzerland, with all the mountains surrounding this little city. We arrived Monday night and went straight out partying at one of the local discos. It was fun until 1 a.m. when the police came and closed the disco down...As some of us weren't tired yet we went hunting for another bar and ended up at the truckers meeting point just outside Morogoro. That was fun :-).

On Tuesday we rented bycicles and went up the mountains where we found a nice little coffee where we had lunch and went for a walk. It was gorgeous. I loved it. Although the bike riding wasn't really funny. The bikes didn't have gears and my bike definitely was too little for me, so it was a pain in the ... to travel up the mountain. Anyway, the reward was great once we reached the little coffee :-).

On Wednesday Will and I caught the bus back to Dar and I took the ferry back to Zanzibar. So, here I am again on the island.

Next week I would like to do another tour of the island, with a guy working here and then the week after I finally want to travel to Uganda :-).

That's all folks, for now. Stay tuned :-)

Happy Eastern

In Zanzibar you tend to forget it's Eastern as they don't celebrate it here. If it wasn't for the increasing amount of tourist hanging around Cholo's you wouldn't think it's Eastern at all.

The last two days I had some excitment which was good for a change. On Wednesday I was invited to celebrate a Jewish holyday which was great, as I've never experienced a celebration like this before. It was a bit weird though being in a isalmic country celebrating the freedom of the Jews. It's called 'Pass over' if I understood it right and the Jews celebrate the liberation from their slavery days in Egypt that day. The celebration starts with a story and all guests must eat some bitter leaves to be reminded of the hard time the Jews had in Egypt. A lot of wine is consumed while the whole ceremony and after dinner and the ceremony we were all quite drunk. I was glad I could be part of it as I never really had the chance to be part of something like this before. I don't explain it to you further because it would take a long time. Anyway, I had a great evening at the house of the Spanish Dancer guys and that's all what counts.

Yesterday I went on a Easter-booze-cruise and as you can imagine was drunk afterwards. We set sails at 5 pm and sailed down to Kendwa Rocks and even further and back to Cholo's again. It was great. The guys were in their element and involved us in a lot of crazy talk while two hours. It was funny. Of course a lot of fishing was involved again and after telling Government the millionst time I don't want to be fished by him, he still didn't get it. Back at Cholo's I went for shower straight away and was back at the bar by 8 pm. And there it started all over again. It was fun and annoying at the same time :-).

Today, we'll try to have an Easter party at Cholo's, let's hope it'll be good :-).

Happy Eastern everyone and stay tuned

Spider in da house

Hello

Actually, I wanted to show you my guest from last night in this entry but somehow it is not working. Maybe some other day. Anyway, I tell you about it.

Last night I came home totally tired and ready for bed. I walked in the house and went straight for the bathroom. And what do I see there? A bloody giant spider. Holy crab. I was slightly scared but just slightly and went in the bathroom veerrrryyyy slowly and did everything I had to do veeerrryyy quickly and run out and closed the door. So, this morning when I let out the chickens I really had to pee but I was scared of the spider and I didn't know what to do. I decided to go to the loo because nature was calling and what can you do. So, I opened the bathroom door slooooowwwwlllyyy, slooowwwwllyy expecting the spider to jump on me, buuttt the spider was gone. So, I'm happy again :-).

Today, I had my laundry day and wished I had a washing machine. It's just too exhausting to wash everything by hand and I'm never sure if it is really clean or not..holy crab.

Hm, that's it for the moment. I had to share my spider story ;-).

Stay tuned the picture of the spider will follow for sure ;-)

Chicken run

These are the chicks I've been looking after for the last week, let them in, let them out

And these are the new chicks in da house. Aren't they cute?

Jammbboooooo everyone
I'm back. Yesterday morning there was a little surprise waiting for me when I got up although I didn't realise it until 1 p.m. Almost on time for eastern the eggs of Diana hatched and the result you see in the pictures above. We were hoping for more than 4 chicks but it seems that there won't be more. But 4 is better than nothing, isn't it? So now, we're having 10 chickens in da house and 5 of them get out every morning at 6 and come back every night at 6 the other 5 are in the house up to now that's because the little ones are only 2 days old and not yet ready for the big world waiting outside. I'm a bit scared to let them out anyway. What if they got eaten by a crow? Or even worse by these nasty ants which are around. So, me the substitute chicken mama is worried about the little ones and wished chicken mama Ruth was here. But I'll handle it somehow.
Not much else happened till my last entry. I've had a late night visit from a cow which almost knocked me of my feet. I was walked home by Boss and went in the house just to go out again to get my laundry. So I got out the door and see something in the grass in the corner of the garden. I looked at it and realised it was biiiggg, my brain said: holy crab a lion. But then my conscience said: bullshit, not possible remember Zanzibar. So I had a second look and discovered the cow. Slowly, slowly I walked over to my laundry (Zanzibar cows can be nasty and I was a tiny bit scared) got my laundry and walked back to the house as quick as I could. My brain started to work again inside the house and the following thoughts went through it: What if this nasty cow is going to eat Ruth' plants? Should I call Khamis? But what will I tell him?
I decided that cows don't eat at night and went to my room. I lay down to read a little when I suddenly heard a noise in front of my window. Fear kick in again. I thought: Hm, what should I do? What if someone is outside checkin' out the house? I decided to go and have a look. And you know what? The bloody cow was outside my window eating. I mean, HELLO aren't they supposed to sleep at night? After a little while I went to bed, in the morning the cow was gone and Ruth' garden still alive. Ufff ;-)
Hm, that's about it. My exciting life in Zanzibar. Tonight there's supposed to be a birthday party at Cholo's. Who knows maybe I'll have more news after that.
Stay tuned :-)
